UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT OMAHA

CREATING A CULTURE OF SUCCESS. LIKE ONLY NEBRASKA CAN.

As Nebraska’s public metropolitan university, the University of Nebraska at Omaha believes its diversity is its strength and that no barriers should separate students from opportunity. Success at UNO and the success of our city are one and the same. That’s why we must stand together to strengthen and serve our communities, fulfilling our metropolitan mission.

FOR THE LIVES WE’LL CHANGE

Relentless Focus on Student Access and Success

Students are the lifeblood of every campus. Ensuring every student has the chance to learn and achieve a better future — with a rewarding career, financial security and confidence in their knowledge and skills — is the embodiment of UNO’s mission as a diverse, engaged metropolitan university. Access and meaningful success require philanthropic support to ensure mindful attention to the challenges students face and the passions they hold and are yet to discover.

FOR THE KNOWLEDGE WE’LL SHARE

Enhancing Faculty and Academic Excellence

Establishing support for the recruitment and retainment of outstanding faculty is critical to building a supportive environment where students can learn and grow. By building on the success of already established programs and seeking to create new, innovative areas of research and study, UNO will continue to attract the best and brightest faculty.

FOR THE PROGRESS WE’LL MAKE

Transformational Research and Innovation

Research is the backbone of any strong university. Across all colleges at UNO, students and faculty are engaging in research that has the power to transform communities and shape the future. Several cross-campus initiatives will build on that research and elevate it to new heights.

FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD:

INVESTING IN OUR
SHARED VISION.

Private philanthropy helps the University of Nebraska serve as a major driver of educational, social, cultural and economic advancement in the state. UNO’s vision is to be recognized as the premier metropolitan university throughout the United States and the world. When someone receives a college degree from UNO, it is transformational not just for that individual but for their entire family, future generations and the community in which they live and work.

A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP

“At UNO, the most important goal is to empower our students through higher education and improve their social and economic mobility. If we can move students up one or even two tiers, then we lift not only our students, but their families, and by extension our community, and our state.”

Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, Chancellor, University of Nebraska at Omaha

UNO’S TOP 5 CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

Integrated Learning: UNO=ECO

UNO is committed to democratizing access to its vast ecosystem of talent and resources. Located in Omaha’s Aksarben Village, UNO=ECO will reimagine education and inspire learning at every age, providing a common space where education, community and business come together. Housing research and engagement programs such as the Security Hub for Innovation, Education, and Leadership Development (SHIELD), UNO=ECO will bring a sense of belonging to anyone who enters the space, eliminating the intimidation of higher education.

Student Scholarships and Support

As an urban metropolitan university, UNO’s mission is to ensure every student has the chance to succeed. To this end, UNO aims to significantly increase investment in scholarships, academic support programs and mental health and wellness services.

Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center

Through a partnership with Holocaust survivor and painter Samuel Bak, UNO will lead the community in an immersive exploration of the human experience with the goal of creating a more harmonious society.

STEM Education: Expansion and Renovation of Facilities

UNO is committed to its role as a key educator of Nebraska’s future STEM workforce. By investing in a state-of-the-art renovation of Allwine Hall, UNO’s oldest building, and a vital expansion of the Peter Kiewit Institute facility, UNO will provide a cutting-edge home for biology and life sciences as well as collaborative space and peer support for information technology and engineering students.

Endowed Chairs and Professorships

Talented and experienced faculty members equip students with the skills they need to become critical thinkers in a changing world. To attract and retain the very best academic minds, UNO aims to significantly increase funding for endowed chairs and professorships.
