UNO Libraries serve as intellectual commons with inspirational spaces for student- and faculty-centered experiences. They are the primary source of academic information for the university community through their collections, academic and reference services, innovative and modern technology, exhibit and event programming, and modern physical facilities.
Maintaining and expanding the libraries as the primary sources of academic information are important to student success. Through collections, academic and reference services, innovative and modern technology, exhibit and event programming, and modern physical facilities, the libraries provide students with resources to graduate and to thrive in their chosen professions.
The merit of a university is best measured by the quality of its faculty. Recruiting and retaining high-quality staff is imperative to strengthening the libraries’ assets. Support for endowed faculty positions will enhance the libraries’ ability to provide dynamic services, exceptional personnel, unique and extensive collections, and accessible spaces and environments.
Open educational resources — free textbooks and other course materials — are a campus priority. UNO Libraries are looking to further engage Omaha through journal access, resource upgrades and improved digital engagement. This includes access to the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive, which has more than 55,000 primary source testimonies of survivors and witnesses to crimes against humanity, including the Holocaust.
FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD
Private philanthropy will allow UNO Libraries to excel and position it to be one of the nation’s top academic libraries serving a metropolitan campus. Your gift will foster UNO’s ability to meet its mission of teaching, research and service to Nebraska.
“At the UNO Libraries, we take pride in fulfilling the UNO mission through our dynamic services, highly qualified and adaptive personnel, unique and extensive collections, and learning spaces and environments available to UNO students. Our highest priority is to foster a library culture of innovation, creativity, diversity and accessibility.”

Student Support
Private funding for scholarships can help UNO recruit and retain the best and brightest minds. Additional support for open education resources can provide free textbooks and learning resources to an even greater number of students. Expanding and updating technology in classrooms and other learning spaces, especially the Criss Library Creative Production Lab, is vital for students.
Endowed Chairs and Professorships
With increased funding for endowed chairs and professorships, faculty recruitment and retention will elevate the excellence of the university. Faculty members play a critical role in the success of UNO’s students and overall research and engagement enterprises.
Equipment, Facility and Technology Upgrades
Enhancements, renovations and improvements to facilities as well as upgrades to technology and equipment are essential to maintaining the libraries’ position as a key recruiting showcase for UNO. Technology advancements will also allow the libraries to partner with prospective companies to archive their histories and audiovisual materials.
Faculty Support Programs and Academic Program Support
Professional development contributes to improving retention, building confidence, improving efficiency and reenergizing staff. Ever-changing technology, new modalities of instruction and new services require UNO Libraries’ staff to constantly renew their skills and education.
