The College of Public Affairs and Community Service was created to respond to the needs of the community and the state. Action-oriented, comprehensive and deeply embedded in the community, the college promotes synergy by integrating applied social sciences relevant to the public and nonprofit sectors.
Enhanced student access and success are critical goals of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, which aims to encourage students to pursue their education, whether they are undergraduates, graduates or adult learners, and launch or continue their careers in Nebraska.

The college is committed to conducting innovative, relevant and necessary research that makes a significant impact on the communities it serves. Current research includes business opportunities in gerontology, actionable programs to assist vulnerable populations and policy studies for the Nebraska Legislature.
FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD
The College of Public Affairs and Community Service plays a vital role in serving Nebraska. Graduates commit their careers to serving their communities, solving problems and improving people’s lives. Faculty members contribute nationally recognized expertise and research to essential areas of impact across the state. The college’s influence is broad — and with private support, it can reach so much further.
“Fifty years ago, the College of Public Affairs and Community Service was created to ‘attack community problems’ and harness the intellectual power of the university to be part of the solution. We have educated generations of students, but equally important, we have been directly involved in solving many complex social problems both in the Omaha area and statewide. The Omaha community is stronger and more humane because of our college.”

Scholarships empower students to pursue their academic ambitions. The college aims to increase scholarship support for undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies program and the Goodrich program and significantly expand graduate fellowships.
Enriched Student Experiences
An enriched educational experience goes beyond the classroom. Funds to support these experiences will support career-building and study-abroad opportunities, service-learning programs and students’ physical and emotional well-being.
Classrooms of the Future
State-of-the-art infrastructure supports a world-class education. Funds to support renovating space currently used by radio and television in the CPACS building will allow for new classrooms, faculty and staff offices and a welcoming student lounge to facilitate collaboration and connection.
Faculty and Academic Excellence
Excellent faculty inspire a love of learning and passion for causes. They provide intellectual leadership for communities that transforms societies. Funds to enhance faculty and academic excellence will provide endowed chairs and professorships and stipends for conferences and professional development.
Funds to accelerate transformative research will support the college’s research initiatives in business, informatics and gerontology; will advance research into assisting vulnerable populations that have experienced war, crime, displacement and exploitation; and will enhance the Center for Public Affairs’ ability to provide data, policy research and advice as a think tank model for the Nebraska Legislature.
It takes a lot to build a future, so let’s start the conversation now.
