The nursing shortage has become a serious problem that threatens the very functioning of our health care system in Nebraska and across the country. But at the College of Nursing, our goal isn’t just educating more nurses — it’s educating more nurses who have the best possible training for a field as essential as it is challenging.
Scholarships make a career in nursing accessible to students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Scholarships also help students graduate with less debt, giving them more options for accepting jobs in areas with lower pay but higher need, such as rural Nebraska.
With donor support, the College of Nursing will endow six new faculty chairs, five in research and teaching excellence and one in clinical excellence. These chairs will provide needed funding for faculty recruitment, innovation and research.
Health care professionals rely on the results of nursing research to understand how best to provide care that is compassionate and addresses the continuum of health promotion, disease prevention, self-management of chronic conditions and end-of-life care. You can direct your gift toward ensuring that the college has the best possible resources to continue to excel in this essential research.
FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD
UNMC’s College of Nursing educates more nurses than any other college in Nebraska, so your support will have an enormous impact. You can be part of addressing the nursing workforce shortage, ensuring that nurses receive the best possible education and funding the research that makes a difference now and in the future.
“Since 1917, the University of Nebraska Medical Center has been educating nurses to advance health care throughout the state. Nurses are a vital member of the interprofessional health care team and critical to the workforce in health care delivery. As we continue to educate the next generation of nurses as educators, practitioners and researchers, we value and appreciate our donors who partner with us to make this a reality. Your impact is creating opportunities and transforming lives!”

Student Scholarships
The college has a bold goal of doubling the number of student scholarships available to meet the critical workforce needs across the state.
Facilities
UNMC can expand its presence in western Nebraska with construction of a building for the College of Nursing in Scottsbluff that will be shared with the colleges of dentistry and allied health professions. The new facility would allow for the increased enrollment that is so crucial for rural health care workforce development.
Endowed Chairs
This valuable support will provide funding for faculty innovations and entrepreneurship, and support the development and expansion of academic programs, including those focused on increasing the rural health care workforce.
Needed Research
Endowing the Center for Patient, Family, and Community Engagement in Chronic Care Management through discovery, dissemination, and diffusion (CENTRIC) will secure permanent funding for the college to continue its research in self-management of chronic conditions.
