The College of Medicine promotes and improves the health of the citizens of Nebraska by advancing biomedical and health sciences and providing the highest quality education, patient care, research and community service.
The college is able to meet only about 10% of student financial need through scholarships. This lack of financial support may impact students’ choice of school, losing top Nebraska students to other medical schools that are willing to offer greater scholarship packages. Scholarships also help UNMC recruit the best, brightest and most diverse student body.
Endowed chairs and professorships are invaluable for recruiting and retaining the best faculty. Private support draws the finest clinicians and scientists to UNMC, helping to advance knowledge through research, encourage the professional development of fellow physicians and improve patient care.
Donor support helps the College of Medicine translate basic science discovery to the patient bedside and to population health. The Child Health Research Institute, the UNMC Cardiovascular Center and several initiatives in cancer, neuroscience and infectious diseases are among the many translational research areas where the college is leading the way, right here in Nebraska.
FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD
Only with donor support can UNMC accomplish its loftiest goals. But together we can increase the number of physicians in Nebraska, provide the best possible medical training to our students, reduce student loan debt and provide the excellent clinical care and innovative research that improve health and save lives.
“Private support creates immediate opportunities to advance research, provide improved patient care and educate and train the next generation of health professionals. Investing in our future physicians, researchers and educators has tremendous impact, as the lives of countless people will be longer, healthier and happier through their commitment to heal, teach and discover.”

Student Scholarships and Residency Support
Only with philanthropic support can we keep tuition down to affordable levels and decrease student debt. Support for residency and fellowship programs is essential to addressing the physician shortage in the state, particularly in rural Nebraska.
Research
Faculty research success advances the field of medicine, thereby improving the health of Nebraskans and the world. Funding to support the development of new researchers and programs as well as to sustain those that have been developed is critical to the long-term sustainability of the college’s basic, clinical and translational research.
Faculty Support
Endowed chairs and professorships are invaluable for recruiting and retaining the best faculty. Support for faculty has broad, lasting impact because it enhances every aspect of the college’s work: teaching, research and patient care.
