Relentless Focus on Student Access and Success

Workforce development is essential to Nebraska’s future. We are uniquely positioned to attract individuals from both metro and nonmetro areas. Not only do the majority of our graduates remain in Nebraska, but most also begin their careers in rural areas, making additional funding for student scholarships and support vital.

Enhancing Faculty, Academic and Clinical Excellence

One of the most important assets we have is our people. Endowed fellowships, professorships and chairs can play a significant role in attracting top talent as well as retaining and rewarding top performers. Among these positions is the need for an endowed professorship or chair to lead the new Center for Technical and Professional B2B Sales.

Transformational Research and Innovation

The college hopes to create a space to bring together the collaborative elements of its four external-facing centers — the Career Center, Nebraska Business Development Center, Nebraska Safety Center and Center for Economic Education — to positively impact students, faculty research and economic development. These efforts will include a student-managed, faculty/practitioner-guided venture fund to fuel new business innovation.

FOR THE FUTURE WE’LL BUILD

INVESTING IN OUR
SHARED VISION.

The college strives to lead the economy of the future and improve the human condition. To reach our ambitious goals, we must focus on increasing scholarship resources, building faculty support and creating educational environments that meet the needs of today’s students. Only with donor support can we make the college a driving force for economic growth.

A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP

“I believe that UNK and the College of Business and Technology, in particular, play a critical role for the state of Nebraska. With a laser focus on providing student-centered, experiential learning opportunities, we prepare our students for a seamless transition into their first jobs, while also providing the foundations they will use as lifelong learners through their careers.”

TOP CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

Scholarships and Student Support

The college has proven it is effective in developing and placing its students. By focusing on student scholarships and support programs that include well-rounded experiences, we are investing in the future of Nebraska, particularly the rural areas of our state most in need of bright, enthusiastic minds.

Endowed Chairs and Professorships

High-quality programs are not possible without high-quality, student-focused faculty. Our teacher-scholars are often internationally respected, yet our faculty are distinguished by their passion for teaching. Attracting and retaining this talent is critical to our shared future.

Enhanced Learning and Engagement Spaces

Today’s facilities share characteristics with those of the past in that they must promote community inside and outside the classroom. However, the facilities of the future differ dramatically in terms of technology and in how they provide accessibility to diverse students near and far. The rapid pace of change means our facilities must change as well.

Rural Nebraska Hub for Entrepreneurship and Technical Sales

Creation of the Center for Technical and Professional B2B Sales will further support entrepreneurship and economic development in the state. Support for this center will allow students to gain essential experience with industry partners, travel to regional and national sales competitions and have access to state-of-the-art technology. Scholarships in this area will help the college attract and retain top students.

INVESTING IN OUR
SHARED VISION.

Nebraska colleges are not graduating enough teachers to fill the growing need for educators in the state. By investing in students, faculty and research, donors can help the college grow and provide more opportunities for those who will serve Nebraska through their critical work in the fields of education and mental health.

A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP

“We appreciate donor support immensely because it allows us to do the best possible job of preparing the students who will play crucial roles in communities all across Nebraska, now and for generations to come.”

TOP CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

Student Access and Success

Donors can play a key role in making education accessible to students from a variety of backgrounds through the creation and support of undergraduate student scholarships. They also can help ensure that students are successful through their support of enriching experiences that prepare students for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Faculty and Academic Excellence

Endowed chairs and professorships are critical to attracting the highest-quality faculty. They are needed in every program, including the Department of Communication Disorders, which seeks to create an endowed chair to lead the college’s online master’s degree program. The shortage of speech-language pathologists in rural Nebraska and nationally is real, and this position will help attract more students to the program.

Internships, Externships and Service Learning

The college is proud of its long-standing history of outstanding field placements and intern experiences with high-quality supervision. Donor support is needed to further enrich and support this coursework and to develop students’ potential.

Next Generation of Nebraska School Leaders

The NexGen Leadership Academy was created to develop and support current and future leaders in Nebraska’s educational system. This innovative program supports current and future leaders in Nebraska’s educational system to enhance leadership capacity in schools at all levels.

International Collaborative Research Initiative

The International Collaborative Research Initiative with Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania continues to provide international interactions for graduate students and faculty in school psychology and counseling. This forum helps broaden the perspective of future mental health professionals who are in great demand.

TOP CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

Endowed Faculty Support

Increased funding for endowed chairs and professorships and faculty recruitment and retention will elevate the excellence of our university and the college. Faculty members play a critical role in the success of UNK’s students.

Scholarships

Providing accessible student experiences and helping achieve unmet student financial needs are significant priorities. Merit-based and need-based scholarships and housing assistance are key to recruiting and retaining top students across campus. Student support will not only help level the playing field, but also move Nebraska ahead of its peers.

Facility Upgrades and Modernization

We must ensure the environment at UNK successfully reflects the innovation, development and cutting-edge facilities expected at institutions of higher education. We also must meet the expectations that students have for their education, with improvements to the Fine Arts Building being an important priority. Whether it be state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, collaborative learning spaces or imaginative performance venues, essential infrastructure upgrades are needed to bring the college in line with its peer colleges across the region and country.
